Chiropractic

Orange County Sports & Wellness utilizes an integrative approach to healing that includes the use of chiropractic medicine for the healing and recovery from musculoskeletal injury and health maintenance.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is one of the fastest growing forms of healthcare in the United States. Doctors of chiropractic complete extensive training and are experts in the field of musculoskeletal injuries. Mobilization of both joints and soft tissues allows the chiropractor to restore normal function to the body. This helps to reduce pain, inflammation, and neurological symptoms. Through the use of their hands chiropractors return normal motion and placement to joints as well as improve health and function of soft tissue. Other modalities can also be utilized to enhance patient healing such as taping, ultrasound, exercise prescription, movement re-education, and many others.

Specialized Therapy

While correct joint mobility is essential to health and proper function, there is much more involved in optimizing human performance. For this reason we specialize in other techniques to ensure that joint motion remains normal and healthy. This is done by maximizing the function of the soft tissues that control joint movement. We use Active Release Techniques (ART), a state of the art soft tissue therapy that addresses problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. By ensuring that the soft tissue is healthy and functional, pain is resolved much quicker and chances of re-injury are greatly reduced. Kinesio Tape is another therapy modality that is used to help retrain and stabilize muscle function while not in the chiropractors office. It allows for increased healing potential as well and improved muscle performance. These specializations, coupled with standard chiropractic adjustments, help to speed patient healing and return to active lifestyle.

What Can Chiropractic Treat?

With the use of both soft tissue and joint therapy chiropractic can treat a vast array of conditions. Some of these include:

  • Headaches
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Sciatica, Numbness, and Tingling
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Muscle Strains/Pulls
  • Knee Pain
  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar Fasciitis

Acupuncture

At Orange County Sports and Wellness we take a whole body approach to your health. This includes the use of alternative medical therapies with proven ability to restore health. We offer acupuncture services.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture originated in China more than 2500 years ago and remains one of the oldest, most commonly used medical practices in the world. Acupuncture is the insertion of fine sterilized, disposable needles and/or applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points on the body. Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing, reduce pain and improve function. This is sometimes augmented by prescribing exercise, massage, hot or cold therapy depending on the patient's needs.

How does Acupuncture work?

According to modern scientific research, needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either reduce or change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal self-regulating system. Many researchers studying acupuncture do not discount that completely unknown mechanisms might be at work as well. The improved neurological function and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body's natural healing abilities in promoting physical and emotional well-being and in restoring physiological function.

What Can Acupuncture Treat?

Some of the many conditions for which Acupuncture is considered appropriate are listed by the World Health Organization of the United Nations:

  • Chronic or intractable pain
  • Back and Neck Conditions
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis
  • Headaches
  • Sports Injuries and Performance
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Smoking Cessation and Addictions
  • Tendonitis and much more

Our Acupuncturist

Daniel Wolf is a Board Certified, California Licensed Acupuncturist. He is also a professional member of the California State Oriental Medical Association as well as The American Acupuncture Council. He received a Masters of Science from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and has over ten years of clinical experience treating chronic pain, sports medicine and orthopedic injuries. He is trained in and uses a system called Neuro-Anatomical Acupuncture. This system, with a stronger scientific base, blends clinical efficacy with patient safety and comfort.

Prolotherapy

We also utilize prolotherapy, a new method of injection treatment designed to stimulate healing as well as to treat unresponsive, chronic pain due to ligament and tendon laxity or weakness. Prolotherapy uses a dextrose (sugar water) solution, which is injected into the ligament or tendon where it attaches to the bone. This causes a localized inflammation which then increases the blood supply and flow of nutrients while stimulating the tissue to repair itself. Prolotherapy has been clinical proven to thicken and strengthen ligaments and tendons within a 4-6 injection treatment cycle.
